BetOff ("we", "our", or "the app") is a mobile application designed to help people stop gambling. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, what leaves your device, who can see it, and how to delete it.
This policy replaces an earlier version that said no data ever left your device. That was true of the first releases. The app has since added optional features that need a server — syncing your history, an accountability partner, and an anonymous community feed — so this page has been rewritten to describe what actually happens. If you read the old version, please read section 4.
BetOff never asks you to sign up. There is no login screen, no password, no email address and no phone number anywhere in the app.
So that your history can sync and so features like an accountability partner can work, the app creates an anonymous account for your device the first time you open it. That account is a random identifier. It is not linked to your name, your Apple ID, your email or your phone number, and we cannot use it to find out who you are.
The name you type when you sign the pledge is used to address you inside the app. It is stored on your device and is not sent to our server.
Your recovery history is also kept on your device, and the app works without a network connection. The server is a mirror, not the source.
Our server is a Supabase project we operate. Everything below is attached to the anonymous identifier described in section 2.

Only what you post to the community feed. Posts are shown without a name, because the app does not send your name to the server. Posts pass through an automated check that rejects links, contact details, abusive language and bookmaker references, but nothing is edited or redacted for you — whatever you type is what other people read, so please leave out amounts, names and anything you would not want repeated.
If you invite someone and they accept, they can see your streak start date, your current streak length and your longest streak. Depending on the alerts you leave switched on, they are notified when you record a setback, when you reach a milestone, or when you start again.
They cannot see your notes, your urge logs, your money entries, your community posts or your intake answers. You can revoke a pact at any time from the Partner screen.
We do not sell your information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not give it to data brokers.
The app records product analytics to our own database. We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase, Meta, or any third-party analytics or advertising SDK.
An analytics record contains only:
Free text cannot travel this way: values that are not numbers, true/false or short strings are dropped rather than converted, and the database rejects an oversized record. Your notes, your promise text and your pledge name are not in analytics.
BetOff offers an optional auto-renewing subscription. Payment is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your card details, and no payment information passes through the app.
We use RevenueCat to check whether a subscription is active and to restore purchases. RevenueCat receives your anonymous account identifier and purchase events from Apple. It does not receive anything you write in the app.
You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID settings.
Each processes data only to run the parts of the app they are responsible for.
The app has a Delete account option under Profile. It deletes the anonymous account on our server together with everything attached to it — your promises, urge logs, relapses, money entries, community posts and reactions, your device registration and your analytics records — and then erases the data on your device. If a partner pact was open, it is closed. This cannot be undone.
Deleting the app alone is not the same thing. It removes what is on your phone, but the rows on our server stay. Use Delete account first if you want everything gone.
We do not set an expiry on data. It is kept until you delete it, or until we shut the service down.
Traffic between the app and our server is encrypted in transit. Every table is protected by row-level security rules so that one account cannot read another's data, and the anonymous session key stored in the app grants nothing beyond what those rules allow.
No system is perfectly secure. The earlier version of this page claimed there was no risk of a breach because nothing was ever transmitted; now that the app has a server, that claim would be wrong, and we are not making it.
BetOff is not intended for anyone under 17. We do not knowingly collect information from children. The app is designed for adults who want to stop gambling.
We may update this Privacy Policy. Changes appear on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Where a change materially affects what leaves your device, we will say so plainly rather than quietly editing the text.
